How to get Netflix US account to work in Singapore

This is not the article with the answers if you’re looking to view your Netflix US content in Singapore.
Rather, this is how you overcome the proxy error. That is, “You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy“.

Again, without using VPNs, it is hard to get around this. So typical methods like Unotelly and Unblock Us won’t work that well anymore.

How to watch Netflix in Singapore?

Instead of fighting it and finding it hard to watch localised content in Singapore as I experienced, I just switched off my DNS redirection service and it allowed me to watch content that would have been picked up by the Netflix proxy blocker that is actually available in Netflix Singapore to watch.
I did confirm before going through this exercise whether or not I needed to switch my Netflix US account to a Netflix Singapore account. According to Netflix, this is not required unless you plan on changing currencies and wanting to pay in a local currency.
I wrote a quick article on this called, “Traveling or Relocating with Netflix“, which spells this out more clearly. For Netflix, it’s in their best interests to keep you happy, while also keeping their content providers happy. So instead of finding yourself needing to just cancel your account. Just keep your current Netflix account but switch off your proxy. That will resolve those proxy error messages which will not allow you to watch your Netflix.
Note – the content you will see will be Netflix Singapore content.
This is the same experience you will have when you travel with Netflix, where you will find that the content will localise itself based on the location and IP address you are watching Netflix from.

Traveling or Relocating with Netflix

Traveling or Relocating with Netflix

If you are traveling or relocating with Netflix, Netflix offers some pretty good options to help you get settled into your new surroundings yet still have some access to Netflix.

Here are some of the things that they say about it.

Relocating to a new country

If you are moving to a new country where Netflix is available, there are only a few things to remember:
  • Monthly price, billing currency and available payment methods may vary by country.
  • You will be billed in the currency of the country you signed up in.
  • If you wish to be billed in the currency of the country you moved to, just cancel your account, wait until the remainder of the month is over, and then restart your account in your new country.
So for Singaporeans (people living in Singapore), the pricing would look like this:

Whereas, I originally signed up in the US, so my plan looks like this (though it is increasing by 1 USD):
Some countries don’t have the Netflix service available, in which case you may cancel your account by signing in and visiting Your Account. To see which countries currently have Netflix available, check out Where is Netflix available? It’s over 130 countries at the date of this post.

Traveling with Netflix

If you’re traveling and want to watch Netflix on the go, all you need is a stable Wi-Fi connection for your computer or mobile/tablet devices. If we notice you’re using Netflix outside of the country where you originally started your account, they will notify you directly in the app of any differences you might experience while in that location.

Relocating within your current country

If you’re moving within your current country, you don’t need to change anything!
